Christian Legal Society Chapter of the University of Toledo v. Johnson

Summary

In 2005, the University of Toledo demanded that the Christian Legal Society chapter “fix” their constitution by removing all Scripture references and adding “nondiscrimination” language eliminating any faith standards for its voting members or leaders. With the help of ADF and CLS, the group filed a lawsuit. The University subsequently settled, allowing CLS to retain its faith-based requirements for members and leaders and to reference Scripture in its constitution and bylaws.
