Keeping Under Christ at Texas A&M University

Summary

Texas A&M University placed a Christian fraternity on restricted status because its constitution limits the group’s membership to Christian men, in violation of the University’s “open membership” policy. The group, KYX, was threatened with the loss of official organization if it refused to change its membership criteria. However, because of a demand letter that ADF previously sent to the University regarding another religious student group, the University changed the way it applied its open membership policy, and Christian groups, including KYX, were allowed to retain faith-based standards for membership.
