Turning Point USA at Grand Valley State University v. Cardenas

Summary

In 2016, Members of Turning Point USA, a student group at Grand Valley State University, exercised their freedom of speech outside the school’s “speech zone” (which makes up less than .03% of campus). They engaged other students in conversation about the First Amendment and asked them to write messages on a “Free Speech Ball.” The University responded by threatening members of the group with arrest for trespassing. After ADF filed a lawsuit, the University agreed to revise its unconstitutional policies.
