University of Wisconsin-Madison Roman Catholic Foundation v. Walsh

Summary

In 2006, the Roman Catholic Foundation applied for student activity fee funding from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, but was denied because officials said it was “too religious.” On appeal some funding was restored, but the University Chancellor indicated he would not approve “religious items” the following year after a letter from Freedom From Religion Foundation. The school then derecognized RCF in part because of its faith standards for leadership. After ADF filed suit the University granted RCF official recognition and provided the group full funding.
