Wayne State University Students for Life v. Driker

Summary

Students for Life, a registered student organization at Wayne State University, applied for funding for its Pro-Life week but was denied. The University also denied the group’s request to reserve an area for a pro-life event. ADF filed suit and the University subsequently agreed to change its unconstitutional student fee and facilities use policies. Specifically, WSU removed provisions in the student fee policy that prohibited funding for “political advocacy” or events that “advance religion.” The University also added standards to ensure future requests would be considered in a viewpoint neutral manner.
