Georgetown, we are told, is “the oldest Catholic and Jesuit institution of higher learning in the United States.” But tonight, on a day when Catholic and many other Christians remember those who have come before us and left a legacy of faith, Georgetown’s Student Activities Commission will determine whether or not a group of students adhering to Catholic teaching on sexual morality is welcome on its campus anymore.

Love Saxa is a group of students that exists to “promote healthy sexual relationships on campus through cultivating a proper understanding of sex, gender, marriage, and family among Georgetown students.” In September, Love Saxa’s President, Amelia Irvine, wrote an editorial for the school newspaper titled “Confessions of a College Virgin.” The response was not, as it should be at a university, debate and the exchange of ideas. Instead, some students called for the removal of the group from campus. A Catholic campus.

After a meeting that lasted more than 3 hours on Monday, the Student Activities Commission has called a special session at 10:30 pm tonight, November 2, All Souls Day, to vote on the group’s fate – and incidentally whether Georgetown will reject its own history
