Amidon v. State University of New York Student Association

Summary

In 2003, two students at State University of New York grew frustrated at the way the University allocated the more than $1.69 million it collected in mandatory student fees to favor groups holding to “liberal ideals.” When they formed conservative student groups and tried to seek funding, they did not receive similar treatment. ADF funded their lawsuit against the University, and an ADF allied attorney represented them. The court held that the student fee allocation system violated the First Amendment and the Second Circuit affirmed this decision.
