Beta Upsilon Chi v. Adams

Summary

In 2006, University of Georgia refused to recognize the campus chapter of Beta Upsilon Chi because it violated the University’s nondiscrimination policy. The policy, however, would have prevented Beta Upsilon Chi – a Christian group – from requiring its members and leaders to be Christian. ADF filed a lawsuit on behalf of the group and two days later, the University agreed to register Beta Upsilon Chi as a student group, and to revise its nondiscrimination policy to protect the right of clubs to retain their faith-based requirements for officers and members.
