Dunn v. Leath

Summary

Iowa State University’s speech code prohibited statements other students might deem not “legitimate” and acknowledged that “First Amendment protected expression may be harassment.” ISU required all students to receive online training and certify compliance with them. When one student refused to certify compliance with those policies, administrators threatened to withhold permission to graduate. The ADF Center for Academic Freedom filed suit, and the University agreed to correct the unconstitutional policies.
