Harper v. McArthur

Summary
In February 2014, Daniel Harper, a student at Cameron University in Oklahoma, was charged with violating the University’s nondiscrimination policy after he distributed flyers about a cult on campus. When Daniel asked about the restrictions on his free speech, a top university official said that the amendments to the U.S. Constitution are simply “foundations” that “you can’t live on” and that University policy supersedes his First Amendment freedoms. ADF filed a lawsuit on behalf of Daniel and the University subsequently agreed to change its policies to better protect the First Amendment rights of students.
