Young Americans for Freedom at SUNY Stony Brook

Summary

In 2010, Stony Brook University in New York prohibited Young Americans for Freedom from becoming a recognized student organization on the grounds that it was too much like the College Republicans. After students revised the constitution, the group was approved but they were denied funding – again for being too similar to the College Republicans. In 2011, ADF sent a demand letter explaining that the policy was unconstitutional. Stony Brook agreed to rescind the similarity requirements and the committee approved funding.
