Christian Legal Society Chapter at Washburn University College of Law v. Washburn University College of Law

Summary

Like many religious student groups, the Christian Legal Society’s chapter at Washburn University College of Law required its voting members to sign a statement of faith in order to run for office or become an official member. But when a student who did not agree with CLS’s religious beliefs but wanted to lead the group complained, the Student Bar Association at the University suspended funding for the CLS chapter and launched an investigation. CLS and ADF filed suit, and the University agreed to amend its policy to protect the constitutional rights of the religious groups like CLS.
