Lydia French at Montana State University

Summary

Lydia French asked Montana State University for an exemption from the University’s rule requiring freshmen to live in dorms, so that she can live at the Chi Alpha Campus Ministry house, a Christian group at the University. Although the University grants exemptions for many different reasons, the University denied Lydia’s request to live off campus for religious reasons.

ADF attorneys sent the University a demand letter requesting that the University grant Lydia the exemption to live at the Chi Alpha Campus Ministry house. The University then granted Lydia’s request to live at Chi Alpha and offered her a commuter meal plan.
